BOY’S FOOT CRUSHED IN LIFT

ACCIDENT AT POST OFFICE. It does not pay to be careless with an electric lift. This was discovered by a telegraph messenger, Benjamin Sharp, 15 years of age, when in charge of the inside lift at the General Post Office yesterday morning. Having omitted to close the gate of the lift, the lad must have stood, with his right foot projecting through the open gateway, for on reaching one of the floors the foot got caught between the gatestep and the floor. The boy’s cries soon brought assistance and first aid was rendered as promptly as possible. Dr. MeEvedy made an examination, which proved that one of the small bones of the foot had been splintered lengthways, and that the foot was bruised and lacerated. The boy was removed to the hospital, where he is doing as well as can be expected.
