DISTANT EARTHQUAKE

DR. C. E. ADAMS’S RECORD ENDORSED. Dr. C. E. Adams, Government Seismologist, has received a wireless advice from Samoa stating that tho earthquake of which he secured a record on Saturday morning had been registered there, and that its radius from Apia was 31 degrees. When examining tho wet record, on Saturday Dr. 'Adams had given the radius as' 38 degrees. A more careful measurement on the dry record reduces it to 37 degrees. A lino 31 degrees west from Samoa and 37 degrees northwest from Wellington would meet in Papua or tho Solomon Islands. So far no reports have been received from tho seat of the disturbance, but all these reports —Wellington, Sydney, and Samoa —agree as to tho great violence of the shako. NO NEWS FROM PAPUA. Sydney, November 6. Though the Papuan wireless stations aro working, they have apparent ly not yet picked up any word of the earthquake recorded by the seisnio--raphs on Saturday morning.—Press Assn.
