What is said to be the largest and besUecuipped fruit and produce mart in New Zealand is at present in course of construction in Wellington. The nnw building, which is estimated to cost, with extras, £355,000, has a frontage of 100 ft. and a depth of 17Gft and runs right through from Allen Street to Blair Street. It consists of three stores with basement. Tho new building la being erected by the Wellington Fruit and Produce Exchange, which consists of the firins of Messrs. Laery and Co.. Ltd., George Thomas and Co.. Ltd., ThompwonandTo., Ltd., and United Growers, Ltd. It is being constructed of steal IrameworK, brick-finished, and is really an extension of the present fruit mart, and will provide an additional 50 feet of auction floor space, giving an area for the auction floor of 150 feet by 160 (ent. The second and third floors are devoted io spacious produce stores and merciiandise departments. A feature of tho new mart is the provision which has been made for the rapid discharge of goods, no fewer than 18 cart-docks being in position. Messrs. W; Turnbull and Won are the architects, and the construction is being carried out by Mr. IL S. Knight
