ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

END OF THE SEASON RESULTS OF FINAL GAMES The worst conditions under which Association football has been played this season, prevailed on Saturday, a strong southerly gale and driving rain making things as uncomfortable at Association Palrk and Miramar Polo Ground during the afternoon. Good games, however, were witnessed by the few who braved the storm. Welgasco defeated Y.M.C.A. seniors by 2 to nil. but it was stated that the victors played a man out of his turn, and may have to forfeit the match. Marist won the second division championship, Seaton n carried off the Fourth A Division Charity Cud. South Wellington won the final of the long-delayed six-a-side tournament, Marist defeated Seatoun for the Fourth B Charity Cup. and Institute won the final for the Scouts’ Banner. Y.M.C.A. V. WELGASCO. Welgasco met Y.M.C.A. in a championship match at Association Park, and after a most uninteresting game left tho field victors, bv two goals to nil Beth teams were far below full strength:: the Y.M.C.A. team included five'of their third grade players,, and Welgasco had to fill four vacancies. Weluasco had most at stake in the game, the result deciding whether they were to remain for another season in tho A division, or. be relegated to tho B division, from which they were promoted last season. An alleged irregularity on iho part of the winning team mav deDrive them of the points gained' on Saturday. In that case, next season will see them in the lower division. Quinnell. during the first half, scored for Welgasco from a rising shot. The wet weather militated against good football, the ball being difficult to control. At half-time Y.M.C.A. had failed to eoualise. In the second half. Thompson netted for Welp-asco. Tho Y.M.C.A. forwards failed to pierce their opponents’ defence. Although, Campbell turned out. he was limping badly during the whole of the game. The final whistle sounded with the. scores; Welgasco, 2; Y.M.C.A., 0. The referee was Air. F. O’Connell SECOND DIVISION. The fixture between Marist and Petone. at Association Park, was the deciding match as to which team was to be the champions for tho 1923' season. Alarist won after a well-contested game bv two goals to one, so are therefore the premier club of their grade. If the game had ended in a draw, four teams would have had to be bracketed for first place. The first half was very evenly contested. each sido scoring one goal. Darrooh. from a fine centre bv Ryan, scored for Afarist. and Batchelor netted for Petono. Early in tho second half Rvan scored what eventually proved to be the winning goal. At the conclusion of a good exhibition of football. taking into consideration the state of the weather, the scores were: Marist. 2: Petone 1. FOURTH A DIVISION. Charity Cup Final (replay).—Seatoun 5. Alarist 0. Smyth (2) and Minifie (3) scored for the winners Afarist had a weak team, and could not hold the Seatoun team, Six-a-side.—Afarist defaulted to Institute in tho semi-final, and South Wellington defeated Institute by a goal, 3 comers, to 2 corners, and won the final.
