The British Prime Minister has left London for Aix-les-Bains, France. He expects to be away from England for three weeks. The Governments of the United States and Japan have renewed their Treaty of Arbitration for another period of five years. Both Houses of the Federal Parliament have adjourned until the return from England of the Prime Minister, Mr. S. M. Bruce. Huge crowds attended all matches at tho opening of tho English football season. Over 128,000 watched six League games in London. The Australian liner Boonah collided with a yacht near Dumbarton. Two women from the yacht fell into the river and were rescued. A cable message has been received in Sydney stating that the passengers and mails from the stranded Changsha, transhipped to the Victoria, will be taken to China, The Russian Foreign Office has sent a third note to Britain, protesting against Stefansson hoisting the British flag on Wrangel Island as a violation oi Russia’s sovereign rights. A factory at Naples, engaged in printing bank notes for the banks of Naples and Sicily, was burned to tho ground. All the machinery and many millions worth of notes were destroyed.

During a twenty-four hours’ general strike at Bilbao, a Spanish -seaport, the police stopped a procession in the main street and opened fire. Five strikers were killed and several were injured.

The Angora Assembly has ratified the Lausanne Treaty by 215 votes to 20. The Allied Commissioners were immediately informed, and the Allied evacuation of Constantinople commenced the next day.

The Labour amendment on the Pensions Bill in the Federal House of Representatives (to increase the old-age pension to £1 a week) was defeated bv 37 votes to 31. Mr. W. M. Hughes voted with the Labour Party.

The Jugo-Slav Government has made an agreement with a British financial group for the construction of a modern harbour at Buccari, a small Croatian town on an inlet in the Gulf of Quarnero. and five miles eastward of Flume.

The United States Postal Departnient has successfully inaugurated an aerial mail service between San Francisco and New York. The aeroplanes work in relays, and the total distance is covered in 28 hours —about onefourth of the railway time.

Tho French Minister of Agriculture announces that the French harvest will be abundant, and will probably total 79 million quintals, excluding the crops in Algeria, and thus will make it unnecessary to buy abroad, provided bread is not wasted.

The Japanese Embassy in London has issued a statement detailing the naval reductions in ncrordance with the Washington Treaty, showing what vessels are being dismant'ed or w[thdrawu from service, and what reductions in personnel are being made.
