The Prime Minister (the Right Hon. W. F. Massey) left for Auckland on Saturday. Ide is expected to return to Wellington by to-day’s train. The Mayor (Mr. It. A. Wright) will accord a reception to the Rev. Dr. Datfe, an eminent missionary from India, at 3.30 p.m. on Friday next. His Worship will also preside at the meeting to be addressed by Dr. Datta in the Concert Chamber on Monday evening next (September 2). The Hon. E. W. Alison (Auckland), who is at present indisposed, was on Saturday granted leave of absence from the Legislative Council for the remainder of the session. Sir Benjamin Fuller, accompanied by Lady Fuller and Misses Joan and Fay Fuller, will arrive to-day by the Tahiti, and will sail on 'Tuesday for America and England. Mr. Oswald Beere thrived back in Wellington on Saturday after a trip to tho United States of America. Mr. T. O. Bishop, secretary of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation, returned from Christchurch yesterday. Two presentations to members of tho staff were made at the Education Board office last week. Mr. R. Savage, who has recently been appointed architect in the Education Department, was given a gold-mounted fountain pen, and Mr. J. O. AVagg, who resigned from the’ clerical ' taff, received a gold pencilcase. The board secretary (Mr. G. L. Stewart) m de the presentations, and referred in felicitous terms to the services rendered by the recipients and the esteem in which they were held by tiieir fellow-employees Both recipients suitably replied. Mr. E. Dawson, accountant in the Wellington Education Board office, has resigned lus position aftei s.xteen years’ service, to take tho position of manager for F. J. Pinny, Ltd.
