EXCHANGE ON CHEQUES

A FLAT RATE SUGGESTED. The New Zealand Farmers’ Union has forwarded a letter to the Council of the Chamber of Commerce, suggesting a flat rate of exchange on cheques, and asking the chamber for an expression of opinion on the point. The matter was considered at yesterday’s meeting. Mr. J. F. Martin: I move that the letter be forwarded to the chairman of the Associated Banks. (Laughter.) It was decided to inform the Farmers’ Union that the matter had been considered at the last conference of Chambers of Commerce, which had approved the sugestion.
