Mr. L. M. Isitt, M.P., is returning to Christchurch from Auckland, where he has been taking part in a big Boy Scout rally in the Town Hall, arranged as a welcome to Sir Alfred Pickford, the overseas commissioner who is touring the British Empire in the interests of the Boy Scout movement. Mr. Isitt states that. the audience sustained great disappointment owing to illness preventing Sir Alfred Pickford’s attendance. Despite this, however, the greatest enthusiasm prevailed. Three thousand five hundred people crowded the hall. His Excellency the Governor-General, who presided, made a stirring appeal for sympathy and help for the cause. Sir Harty Lauder delighted the audience with a characteristic speech, and undoubtedly the meeting has lent fresh impetus to the Bov Scout movement. Sir Alfred Pickford will visit Wellington on June 18, 19, and 20, and an influential committee is actively at work preparing for his reception.
