WON’T SPOIL THE SHIP

PRIME MINISTER & EMPIRE EXHIBITION “I am not going to spoil the slii-p for the sake of a ha’p’orth of tar.’ said the Prime Minister, on his return from the South Island vesterday, when questioned rewarding the suggestion that the appropriation for the representation of New Zealand’s . resources and industries at the Britisn Empire Exhibition next year should -be increasedSpeaking at the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association annual meeting, Mr. Massey said that, as regards the Empire Exhibition. he had promised that about £6O.<XX) would be available to make a display worthy of this country, but he was not going to draw tho line strictlv at that amount, and if another £lO.OOO or £20,000 was wanted he should be able to find it.— (Applause.) He hoped however, that Mr Stewart would take that as a promise. He was only suggesting as a possibility that a little more money might be required, because he was not going to spoil the ship for a ha porth of tar and in anv case we would get a full and adequate return in the way of advertisement for the outlay. If ht went to England himself it would be during the present vear, and when the Exhibition opened he would be glad to stand aside so that one of his colleagues. such as Mr. Stewart as Minister of Industries and Commerce might be able to represent the Dominion.
