A Masterton farmer, referring to a drive of sliebp all the way from Tolago Bay to Ohakune, on the Main Trunk, said much driving in the old days was done by way of the coast. Tho great trouble in that case, especially in dry weather, was to prevent the sheep .and cattle from drinking sea water, which affected them very injuriously. The drive of sheep from Tolago Bay to Ohakuno was a good deal discussed by stockmen in Masterton. (states the “Ago”). Such drives were no uncommon thing in tho early days, though of late they have become Jess frequent. Losses depend very largely on the amount of green feed available on the route. , , Dustin's pies are justly famous for lunch, tea, and supper.
