STRIKES IN BRITAIN
BUILDERS’ LABOURERS TO CEASE WORK HALF A MILLION MEN CONCERNED The stoppage in the building trade in England will render half a million men idle, and hold up work on 150,000 dwellings, and many other constructional schemes. The loss in wages is estimated at over a million pounds a week. BY TELEGBAPH.—PII7SS ASSOCIATION, —COPYRIGHT. (Reo. April 13, 7.15 p.m.) London, April 13. Half a million builders’ labourers will cease work to-day, primarily because they are unable to agree to arbitration upon the question of working an extra half-hour daily during the summer-time. An eleventh-hour attempt to prevent the trouble was niado by the Ministry of Labour, but failed. The leaders declare that the men are prepared for a long fight. The employers believe many will remain at work. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
