CARE OF REALLACE
When real lase is not being used it should be kept covered with some soft material, but must not be wrapped in paper. Chemicals are used in the production of some kinds of paper, and these will often discolour linen and lacc, so it is not always advisable to use paper as a wrapping for valuable materials, states a writer in an English exchange. When real lace is soiled it should either be washed or sent to the cleaners without delay, because dirt will soon rot the threads and cause holes to appear. If the lace is washed at home it should be soaked for two hours in cold water to which a pinch of borax has been added, and then squeezed. Lace of-any kind should never be twisted or wrung. The lace should ba put in a stiff lather made with warm water and Castile soap, and afterwards squeezed very gently between the palms of the hands. Should any soil still, remain repeat the soaking until it is quite clean.
To stiffen the lace slightly dissolve a couple of knobs of loaf sugar for a few minutes, squeezing it as before. After folding the ironing blanket several times, the lace should be pulled into shape and carefully pinned on it. Cover it with a piece of clean muslin and iron it with a moderately warm iron.
