OTAGO DEER HERDS

COMMENT BY WAIRARAPA STALKER. By telegraph.—press association Dunedin, April 12. Mr. J. Ross and his son Athol, Messrs. J. A. Macleod, and A. D. Kitto, a quartet of Wairarnpa deerstalkers, have been in the Makarora district. The two former have returned, and Air. Ross, senior, says that this is the fourth consecutive year ho has been in this district. He notices a pronounced deterioration in the herds, which in his opinion should be severely culled, and practical men should be engaged to do it. Mr. Ross, junior, got a good fouirteeii-pointer aud Mr. McLeod a twelve-pointer.
