RUHR SITUATION
NOT TO BE TOLERATED MUCH LONGER GERMANY WILLING TO NEGOTIATE AFTER EVACUATION Tho Corman Chancellor say« Germany is willing to negotiate when the Ruhr has been evacuated. He thinks the nations cannot tolerate the situ■oation much longer.
By telegraph.—press association. ' , —COPYRIGHT. Berlin, April 10. Herr Cuno, the German Chancellor, in an' address at the memorial session of the Reichstag, declared that Germany . stood by her ' offer to resume negotiations immediately the enemy evacuated the Ruhr. Meanwhile he appealed to. all nations to take measures fcr the prevention of further bloodshed and the terrorisation of the inhabitants of the occupied territory. The nations, he ventured to think, could not much longer tolerate a situation in which the French were misusing their power in a terrible fashion. “Our i>eople in peace,” he said, “are suffering in a manner that civilised nations endeavoured to avoid during wartime. These Essen victims stood before the murderous- French fire in. defence of a right that will become a power.” It was a picture of the right to work on the German side, and of brutal, unjust force on the other, he continued. He had not heard of any regret manifested in France. “While machineguns may control individual determination, they cannot destroy an entire nation,” he said. ‘’Passive resistance must continue. .No arrangement must be made while the Ruhr and Rhineland are occupied land. Where the victims are buried is sacrei, and must be freed.” —Aus.-N.Z'. Cable Assn.
