Tho Minister of Lands (Mr. Guthrie) will to-day attend a meeting of the Tongariro National. Park Board at Waimarino. He will return to Wellington to-morrow.

Tho Minister of Defence (Sir Heaton Rhodes) left for the south last night. The Attorner-General (Sir Francis Bell), tho Minister of Labour and Marine (Mr. Anderson),, and Sir William Fraser are already in the South Island. All four will attend a meeting of the Executive Council in Dunedin on Thursday.

Mr. Noel Elmslie, who has been appointed His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner in Now Zealand in succession to Mr. R. W. Dalton, is expected to arrive in Sydney bv the s.s. Osterley on Thursday next. He will probably take up his duties in Wellington about April 24. Mr. Elmslie will ba accompanied by his wife. Mr.* Cyril Bavin, national secretary, migration department, Y.M.C.A., London, returned from his tour of tho South Island yesterday. He will leave for Auckland to-day, returning to Wellington about April 17. Mr. Llewellyn Jones, a Welsh gentleman who, with his wife and family, has been staying in Hawke’s Bay for a year past, intends to leave for England by the Tainui early next month. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Potter, of Pahiatua, have hooked to leave Sydney for London by the Osterley on May 8. ]yfr. F. W. Lawrence, of the Customs Department, and his wife and family, are to leave on a visit to America and England by the Tahiti on April 24.

Mr. H. W. Sadlier, son of Bishop Sadlier, of Nelson, a medical student, nnd Miss Saddlier (his sister) will leave shortly for England. They will join the Orsova at Sydney in July. The Rev. Father Moran, of the Marist Fathers’ Home, Golder’s Hill, will leave for America, England, and the Continent by tho Tahiti on April 24. Mr. Perov Waldie, nccountant in the head office of the Public Works Department, will leave Wellington on a trip to England by the Paparol tomorrow.

Captain Timing, of the New Zealand Defence Forces, and Mrs. Thring, will leave here in June for a trip to England.

Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Meek, of Lower Hutt, will leave on a trip to England by th© Ruahine on April 21. Mr.‘D. J. Rodgers, of C. A. Ross, Ltd .'Pahnerston 'North, will leave on a irin to England, via America, by the Tahiti on April 24. Mr. T. O. Fox, of the citv engineer’s staff, will leave for London by the I’aparoa to-morrow. Dr. Hardwick-Smith, of Wellington, wilt leave on 'a trip to England this month.

Tlie Rev. Clarence Eaton and familv arrived in Wellington from the south yesterday mornuig. Mr. Eaton was apnoinFed by the recent Methodist Conference to succeed tho Rev. kt. E. Bellhouse as minister of Wesley Church. Taranaki Street. Mr. Eaton has just completed a ■successful term of eight years an superintendent of the Dunedin Central Mission. De will commence his ministry at Wesley Church next Sunday.

Mr. C. B. Trimnell, who has been appointed resident director for Bine. Harris, and Co. at Christchurch, left for the south last evening. Mr. M. Shinkwin. of Wellington, will succeed Mr. J. S Winton as goods foreman on the Palmerston North railway staff. Mr. Winton has been in Palmerston for very many years, and is highly esteemed by all who know him. Tho death of Mr. John Jefferies, which occurred at Bunnytliorpe on Friday last, marks the passim* of one. of the. earliest pioneers of the district. Mr. Jefferies went to tho Bunnytliorpe district some fifty years ago. and experienced many of tho trials which were tho lot of the early colonist. His death, at the ago of 78 yem. will be, rnnrotT?<l bv p wklq circle of friends in the district. Deceased leaves n wife and Familv of seven sons and six daughters to mourn their loss. Of tho sons, Messrs Henrv, Arthur, nnd Albert reside at Taonui, Levi at To Wore Samuel nt Feilding, Alfred nt Bunnytliorpe, and Gabriel at Cambridge. The daughters are: Mrs. Howard (Levin). ‘ Mrs. Marshall and Mrs. James (Bunnvthorpo), Mrs. Thompson (M averlcy). nnd Misses Koto and May Jcflc-nes (Bunny-thorps).

Mr G Jackson, treasurer of the Wellington Rugby Union, was last night awarded an honorarium o( zO guineas bv tliO' management committee for his services to the' uniou during the 1922 season.
