AMATEUR ATHLETICS

WELLINGTON CENTRE. The monthly meeting of tho Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association wa» held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms last evening, Mr. A. B. Sievwright being in the chair. The following were present:—Messrs. W. H. Jones, G. H. Lusk, W. Ballantync, F. Hodson, T. Farrington, E. A. Shaw, W. Smellie. H. Paton, J. Sharpo, L. McKay, D. Wilson. S. Hall, N. Craig, J. Donne, A. W. O, Travers. J. O’Sullivan (secretary). Mr. J. Don was. welcomed to the centre as a new member.

Mr. W, H. Morpeth wrote thanking tho centre for the sportsmanlike spirit in which his letter dealing with the question of youths competing against men was discussed. _ A letter was received from Mr. W. H. Dunn, a former secretary of the centre, stating that an amateur body would be formed in Napier at the commencement of next season, and. that the prospects for amateur athletics in Napier were bright. Mr. S. H. Lusk reported that he had attended a meeting convened by the Central Progreso League concerning the holding of a carnival week in Wellington. It was stated that the meeting was in favour of holding a carnival. and July was suggested as a suitable time. Other steps taken were outlined. Messrs. Lusk and Sievwright were appointed delegates of the centre to any further meeting called concerning the proposed carnival. The report of the second annual meeting of the Harrier Sub-Commit-tee was submitted to the centre. The rejxirt was adopted, subject to the referring back of the clause dealing with the cross-country championships. Mr. J. Don and Mr. H. Paton were appointed delegates to the Wellington Citizens’ War . Memorial Fund meeting. The following resolution was passed: “That this centre expresses its support of tho objects of the committee, and will do its utmost to help to attain its aim.”

Mr. Hodson moved and Mr. Travers seconded, that the recommendation of tl.ie Harrier Sub-committeo re the reduction of teams from 8 to 6 men to Australasian cross-country championships bo forwarded to tho ea " land Council for consideration, the New Zealand Council to be requested to obtain a mail vote on the matter. The total profits of the two meetings in Wellington at which the American athletes competed was stated to be £G6I 16s. 7d. It was rewlved that the balance outstanding, £2ll 16s. 7d., be handed to the New Zealand Council, making the total sum handed by the centre to the council £6ll 16s. 7d.

Thanks were expressed to the secretary and treasurer for their work in connection with the American meetings in Wellington.
