CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS

HOW THEY ARE ATTENDED. A return has been prepared by tho City Council staff showing the attendances of the council at ordinary meetings and meetings of the various committees between January 1, 1921, and April 1, 1923. Tho number of meetings held during tho period is shown as follows:—City Council, 66 ; Finance Committee, 57 ; Tramways Committee, 71; By-laws Committee, 49; Legislation Committee, 22; Milk Committee. 55Outlying Districts Committee, 31; Works Commjltae, 19; Health Committee, 47; Reserves Comittee, 54. The Mayor (Air. R. A. Wright, M.P.) attended all meetings of the council. Finance, and Works Committees, of which ho is a member, and missed only one meeting of the Tramways Committee. Councillors B. G. H. Burn and IV. Gaudin each attended 63 council meetings. As a member of various committees Councillor Burn was absent from ten meetings, while Councillor Gaudin was present at 158 out of 204 committee meetings. Councillor L. McKenzie missed only two meetings of the council, and was absent from 28 out of 186 meetings of committees. Tho attendances of other members are summarised as follows:—Councillor H. D. Bennett, 51 council meetings, 135 committee meetings out of 189 (Councillor Bennett was not elected to the council until the April election, 1921); Councillor W. H. Bennett, 57 council meetings and 181 committee meetings out of 222; Councillor J. Burns, 62 council meetings, and 107 committee meetings out of 119; Councillor C. H. Chapman, 58 council meetings and 135 committee meetings out of 162; Councillor J. Al. Dale, 60 council meetings and 107 committee meetings out of 178; Councillor T. Forsyth, 60 council meetings and 132 committee meetings nut of 154; Councillor P. Fraser, M.P., 53 council meetings, 89 committee meetings out of 14S; Councillor Al. F. Luckie, 59 council meetings and 177 committee meetings out of 237; Councillor (Airs.) AfcVicar, 59 council meetings and L 9 committee meetings out of 101: Councillor C. J. B. Norwood, 52 council meetings and 152 committee meetings out of 205; Councillor A. W. Parton (elected in July, 1922), 18 council meetings and 21 committee meetings; and Councillor W. J. Thompson. 55 council meetings and 194 committee meetings out of 232.

Councillor Thompson attended the most meetings of the council and committees, being present on 249 occasinns, white (Jnnncillnr Burns was pipsent at 242 meetings. The total attendances of other members are as follow: —Councillor W. H. Bennett, 238; Councillor Luckie, 236; Councillor McKenzie, 233 ; Councillor Gaudin, 221; Councillor Norwood. 204; Councillor Chapman, 193: Councillor Forsyth, 192; Councillor H. D. Bennett, 186; Councillor Burns, 169; Councillor Dale, 167; Councillor Fraser, 142; Councillor McVicar. 118: and Councillor Parton, 39. (Note.—Some councillors are members of more committees than others).
