BRITISH AND FOREIGN SAILORS’ SOCIETY
The Wellington branch of the British and Foregn Sailors’ Society entertained during the week-end the sailors of the Hurunui and Paparoa. On Saturday afternoon about 60 men were taken by motor to Seatoun Park, where they engaged in a friendly game of football, after _ which they were taken round the different bayw and to afternoon tea, at Mrs. Keenes, Island Bay, and through Happy V alley back to town. In tho evening they were further entertained at a social evening in the rooms Brandon Street, where games, songs, etc., were, indulged in till 10 pm., after which tho men passed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs. Keene for tho afternoon tea provided by her for them, and to tho ladies of the society for their help in entertaining them. On Sunday quit o a large number sat down to tea, after wh’ch a bright song and Gospel service was held, the men. entering into the same in great spirit. Mr. H. Nimmo conducted this meeting, and Miss Smith was tho soloist.
