LABOUR AND THE P.P.A.

STATEMENT BY MR. NASH. By Telegraph.—Pkess association. r Christchurch, April 6. ’According to a Press Association message from Dunedin, Mr. Howard Elliott,- speaking of the Tauranga byelection, said that the Labour organisers who had gone down to Tauranga from Auckland had been suddenly ordered back from Wellington. Mr. Nash, national secretary for the New Zealand Labour Party, strenuously denies those allegations. ‘‘Since I have been national secretary,” he said, ‘‘we have never had e, communication from any religious organisation with regard to elections. The Labour Party has expressly stipulated that it is as much opposed to one party as to the other, that is, to bothj-Reform and Liberal. Parties. We are opposed to all anti-Labour parties.” Mr. Nash said that there was no Labour organisation in Tauranga. The executive’s position with regard 'to Oamaru had been explained by Mr. Holland at the recent conference of the Labour Party, and endorsed by all present. In reply to the allegation that .the Labour Party was opposed to Protestantism, Mr. Nash said: “We have members in the Labour Party from every religious organisation in the Dominion.”
