BOXING COUNCIL

MORE ABOUT THE TROUBLE WITH OTAGO. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, April 6. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Council Mr. R. W. McV’illy (Wellington) was elected patron. It was decided to allot the New Zealand championships at a later meeting. In connection with a Press Association report circulated throughout Now Zealand, the following resolution was passed:—“The statement emanating from the Otago Boxing Association to the effect that the disqualification of the Otago Association’s committee and officers by the New Zealand Council was illegal, because the Persons disqualified had been afforded no opportunity of submitting a defence is, in the opinion of the council, frivilous, for the following reasons: —(1) The rule quoted by the Otago Boxing Association has no application to. disqualifications by thp council, which body, like every other bodv, has summary disciplinary power to deal with persons or associations ouilty of deliberate wilful contempt towards the governing body; (2) The letter dated March 6, received from the 0.8. A. was the culmination of a series of such deliberate contempts: (3) The only possible question at anv hearing in defence granted to tho 0.8. A. would have been, was that letter written to the Association—a fact whioh is admitted.”
