VISUALISING DOUBLE FIGURES

The- Wellington Training College warmly welcomes any gifted individual, outside of its tutorial staff, who. will give a lesson in the interests of higher education, to its students, who will be the school teachers in the future. On. Thursday Mr. W. H. Inglis, of Dunedin. who is an exponent of the visualising of double figures, and who uses his talent voluntarily wherever he goes us a commercial traveller, gave a highly interesting lesson. With enarmous speed and perfect accuracy he soars into realms far away above the ordinary multiplication table, and fills the student with admiration and envy. Not only does he show his own prowess, but he very simply unfolds his gift to tha student, who, before his entry, prepares anv 28 or more figures for the test. He completes his answers in less than a quarter of the time taken by the class, and he uses no other figures than those of his answers. The first three students then compare answers audibly with their comrades. He concludes" with instructive incidents, lately occurring -with his operations in the South Island, and a peroration of figures translated into the currency of our realm. Mr. Inglis is a native of Calcutta, and finished his educational career at Madras College, St. Andrew's, Fifeshire, Scotlana. Mr. Inghs also gave addresses at Wellington College, Victoria College, and at St. Mark’s School.
