GERMAN TRAWLERS LAND FISH

STRIKERS IN CONFLICT WITH POLICE WOMEN HEAD ATTACK Aberdeen fishermen strongly resent German trawlers being avowed to land their catches at that port. Riotous scenes have occurred as a result.

BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. « — OOPYBIGHT. (Rec. April 5, JI. 5 p.m.) London, April 5. Tliero has been a repetition of riotous scenes at Aberdeen arising out of the trawlermen’s strike. In the attempt to stop the Janding of fish caught by Germans, many street fights have occurred. Police.chargee were reported, batons being used, and several men being wounded. The German trawlers, nevertheless, are marketing their catches, the public being refused admittance to that portion of the market. Several German trawl-irs hav« been stoned. The situation is serious, and the Town Council has been asked to intervene. According to the “Daily Express s Aberdeen correspondent, hundreds of fishermen’s wives led the strikers in a fierce fight in an attempt to prevent porters from handling German fish. The women seized policemen by the collars of their tunics and dragged Item from their husbands and brothers They also hurled jars and crockery from windows. One policeman was so injured that he had to bo removed in an ambulance. Many Grimsby trawlers are laid up owing 'to tho owners’ inability to obtain coal,’ because merchants can obtain an extra 10s. per ton by exporting it to Germany. In.the meantime foreign trawlers are landing their catches at Grimsby and pockeiting money which local men ought to be earning.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
