COAIMENTS ON OTAGO’S ATTITUDE. bt telegraph.—pbess association. ■ Christchurch, April 4. The following reference to the dispute between the Otago Boxing Association and the New Zealand Boxing Council appears in the annual report of tho council, which has just been issued: —“AVhile loath to refer to the difference between the council and the Otago Boxing Association, the council feels that the general interests of the sport require such reference. The council is constituted for the purpose of "administering the la ws, and its Becisjons based on tho laws. Tho council’s decisions, ei’en if they co not happen to agree with the views of an interested body, are at least entitled tn the resnect accorded in all branches | of sport to the decisions of an impar- | toil tribunal. If the council’s decisions I arc flouted, if members of the, conned i u-e slandered, and if an effort is made ! to create dissension among affiliated bodies, then it is obvious that any associated bodv guilty of such excesseis a mc.nnoo to the general welfare of the institution to which it is affiliated “Tlio Otngo Boxing Association has chosen to a-dont an a'Hitilde lor which no precedent can be found in the history of snort in New Zealand. The control’ing body is compelled to take such action as it deems necessary for the safeguarding of the interests of it-» affiliated associations. The Otago Foxing Association cannot be permitted to remain affiliated. GIBBONS-DEAIPSEY MATCH. New Yotk, April 3. The Boxing Commission has agreed that f Tommy Gibbons knocks out Jack Rinault, the Canadian champion, it will approve the Gibbons-Dempsey match, which the commission previously declined to permit on the ground that a good little man can never beat a good big man.
