CHURCH OF CHRIST

LARGELY ATTENDED CONFERENCE The annual Dominion Conference of the Church of Christ opened on Thursday. Il was decided that the conference executive should be in Dunedin. Mrs. Theodore Arnold was elected president, and Miss Lydia Neil secretary. A public meeting was held in the evening, at which papers were read by Mesdames Moshet (Auckland) and T. Arnold, and a concert was held. The conference was officially opened yesterday morning by Mr. David Cairns. New Plymouth, Hawera, and St Albans Churches were affiliated Messrs W- Lowe ana J. B. Gauntlett were appointed secretaries, and Mr. H. Grinstead Press steward. Visitors, including Messrs. Toogood (Australia), McGregor (Scotland), and Mr. and Mrs. Glisshold (Victoria) were welcomed by Mr. Wright and Mr. D. Campbell. The chairman’s address referred to the year as a strenuous one, and urged a return to New,Testament Christianity. Mr. G. P< Cuttriss (organising secretary) referred to home mission work in Richmond, Gisborne, Palmerston North, Levin, Kilbirnie, Ashburton, St. Albans, North-East Valley, Gore, and Mataura, Hutt Valley, and Wanganui. The statistical report showed that 260 had joined the church by baptism. Evangelists Corlett, Rodger, Crampton, and Noble delivered addresses. The principle of the budget system was adopted. It was stated that £3OOO was needed for home mission work. Invitations were received from Invercargill, Christchurch, and Dunedin, the latter being chosen as the venue for the 1924 conference.

Officials were elected as follow:—President, Mr. J. Inglis Wright (Dunedin) ; vice-president, Mr. George Day ; secretary, Mr. H- Leng; treasurer, Mr. A. V. Williams; executive, Messrs. M. Vickery, A. H. Eaton, W. Coulter. D. Cairns, and TV. J. Mason. Auckland advisory committee : —A. A- Creamer, president; J. G. BelL secretary; F. Evans, R. J. Dick, R, Gebbie, G. Movie, E. J. Carr, V. Ross, and E. Vickery; Christchurch advisory committee: W. Grantham, W- D. More, G. Purnell. M. Doreen, A. H. Reid, H, Gill, Neilson, Crewe, and T. Mitchell.

A crowded mission rally was conducted in the South Wellington church last night by Mrs. D. Cairns and the pre-sident-elect. Mr. W. Mason led the song service, and Mr- G. P. Cuttriss spoke on home missions. Mr. Wright, secretary of the Foreign Mission Committee, spoke of the work amongst the peoples of Africa.
