CHARGES OF ARSON
FIRES AT AVONDALE BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, March 29. At the Police Court Leslie Cyril Watson (18), Livingstone Forsyth McNair (23) and William Braithwaite (21' were charged with incendiarism at Avondale, it being alleged that they had started three fires, one under the public school, one in an outhouse, and one in a paddock. Braithwaite pleaded not guilty. The others had made a full confession and were committed, for sentence. No material damage was done by the fires. . In r'egard to the charge against .William Frederick Braithwaite, decision was deferred, the Magistrate remarking that he did not think much would be gained by sending the case to a jury. i Leslie Cyril Watson admitted the theft of £8 9s. 6d. at Avondale (not connected with the fire). Sentence was deferred pending Supreme Court proceedings.
