DREW DEAD BROTHER’S PENSION
FARMER COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE BY TELEGRAPH.—PHUS ASSOCUTION. Palmerston North, March 28. At the Police Court to-day,' James Stuart, a farmer of the Pohangina district, pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence on two charges of impersonating John Stuart, deceased, nith intent to fraudulently obtain two. instalments of the deceased’s war pension.. The police stated that the 'accused and tho deceased were brothers, living on the farm in Pohangina. On the death of John Stuart his brother had gone to the Post Office and had successfully made application for instalments of his deceased brother’s war pension. Counsel for the accused said that tho latter had been drawing the pension prior to tho brother’s death, and thought he was entitled to do so afterwards. The money obtained had been applied to funeral expenses and the deceased’s debts. The amount had since been refunded.
