KARAKA BAY BUS

AN IMPORTUNATE RATEPAYER.

Somv twelve months ago the Citv Council entered into an agreement with Mr. Bridger to run a motpr-bus service between Karaka Bay and the terminus of the tramline at >Seatoun- Ihe details of that service’were incorporated in the tramway department’s official time-table, which is generally regarded as the repository of reliable information about transport arrangements in the city. Mr. J. Muir, a resident of Karaka Bay, on Monday waited on tho Tramways Committee to point out that the service as announced was not being maintained. The complaint was made that the early morning bus to enable a man to reach town by 8 a.m. (per tram) had been cut n/.t altogether. It was true that Mf. Bridger’had, at a meeting of ratepayers, promised to run a bus when anyone wished to connect with' tho New Plymouth express, but if he could do that why should he not run in order to take a man into vork at 8 o’clock, when advertised to do so in the time-table? All he (Mr. Muir) was concerned about was that tho early ’bus should leave the Karaka Bay wharf at the time advertised in the time-table.. He urged that if tho service were reduced that the subsidy should be reduced.

The Mayor (Mr. R. A. AYright, M.P.) stated that the matter would be looked into again. Ho reminded Mr. Muir that the meeting, of ratepayers had decided that tliej;e was no nded of- the early bus.
