Mr. F. W. Martin, M.A., B.Sc., has been appointed director of the Masterton Technical School, and will take up tho duties of that position on May 1. Mr. Martin began his teachino’ career in the service of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board, and later spent some years at the Patea District High School. Six years ago, being then headmaster of Linton School (near Palmerston North) he was appointed English master at the Wellington Technical College. This position he is now vacating to go to Masterton. Mr. Martin was a Bachelor of Arts when he came to Wellington, and has since taken his M.A. and B.Sc. degrees. Mr. E. W. Beaglehole, Director of Education at Samoa, is returning to New Zealand after eight years’ sojourn in these islands (says the Samoa. Tinies”). Ho has worked hard in the interests of education, and also has been a willing helper in social activities. Mr. T. O. Fox, district engineer for Miramar and eastern suburbs, has obtained six months’ leave of absence, and will leave for England by the Paparoa about April 7. For eight years Mr. Fox was engineer for the Miramar Borough Council, and since the amalgamation he has been the en-gineor-in-charge of tho eastern suburbs. Mr. J. Dumbleton has been appointed manager of the Nireaha Dairy Company, out of thirty-six applicants, in succession to Mr. A. V. Hartley, who has resigned the position to enter into farming pursuits m the south. Mr Frank L. Kay has been awarded the first Robert Bell scholarship in journalism at Canterbury College. Mr. Kay was second in the junior University scholarship list last year.—Press Assn.
