BANK NOTES
to the Editoe. , Sir, —I was being paid some money, and among the notes were Commercial Bank £1 notes the size of the ordinary lOS., note, and the person paying me characterised them as “horrible little things,” with which remark I heartily agreed- In the same lot were Bank of New South Wales 10s. notes the same size as the ordinary one pound notes. •This is going to the other extreme, ami I cannot for the life of me understand why these two banks cajnot fall into line with customary usage and common sense by making their ten shilling notes and their one pound notes respectively uniform in size and shape with other institutions. In my own case I absolutely refuse to take either of the notes in question when I can avoid it, and when I cannot I get rid of them as speedily as possible. There is no end to the mistakes which are dailv made under existing conditions, and it sometimes entails loss upon poor persons who can Hl afford it. Has the Chamber of Commerce not considered the matter? —I a.m, etc., BURT EATON.
