MONEY MAIIKET. The Bant of England discount rate is 5 per cent., to which it was reduced from M per cent, oti July 13. OPEN MAEKET HATE. The open market rate for three months bills is nominally 23 per cent., as compared with 23 per cent, last week, arid 3J r-er cent, last year. Messrs. Hansford and Mills aro just completing the steps that form the base of the Bank of New Zealand War Memorial, which has been erected in a. convenient niche opposite the main entrance to the bank, and yet within the portico. Tho memorial takes the form of a bronze honours board, erected on a heavy panel of polished grey marble (from Nelson). There is an lonic pediment about the plaita, and on either side are lonic pillars, standing out from tho panel itself. This contains the names of G 6 officers of I tbe bank who served in tho war, and the names of five —picked out separately—who made the supreme .sacrifice. The memorial is about ten feet in height by eight feet in width.
