YOUNG PEOPLE’S DEMONSTRATION.

There were segnds of remarkable enthusiasm in ■ the Town Hall -on Monday night, when one of the most important phases of the Salvation Army’s National Congress—the yoking people’s demonstration—was conducted in tho characteristic manner ,of the great organisation. Trained throughout the year by the instructors at the various hoines, the orphans, both boys , and ' girls, joined happy hands with the scholars of tho combined Sunday schools, and the entertainment they presented was an excellent one. First and foremost on the bill'was the Eltham Boys’ Band, under Bandmaster I. BridgCr. Next tho young folk united in the singing of “God Bless Our Army Brave,” after which thev delivered a prayer song, entitled “The Children’s Friend.” A rousing march effect accompanied “Unde-- the Colour*,’’ and then tlm Eltham boys took possession of the stage and performed some interesting tableau pyramids. A pretty floral song, by the South Wellington seation, a (bill seng by the Owen Street girls, physical drill displays by tho Kilbirnio life-saving guards, gymnastic displays by the Eltham boys, a biblical pageant, and' numerous choruses and action and drill songs were received with due approval, and at the close* of the programme thp youthful porfo-rniers were warmly applauded. Among those present were Commissioner and Mrs. Booth-Tucker. Commissioner and Mrs. Hoggard, and Colonel and Mrs. Mclnnes.
