MAGISTRATE’S COURT
POLICE CASES. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., dealt with tlie police cases in the Magistrate’s Court' yesterday. Charges of obtaining goods to the! value of £l5 Is. 6d. by means of valueless cheques were admitted by a young butcher named William John Harvey. The accused was remanded until to-morrow for sentence. On charges of drunkenness, resisting arrest, and committing a grossly indecent act, Cornelius Herbert Ashby was convicted and fined £3 55., with the option of spending seven days in gaol. Edward James Ashby, who had come to his brother’s assistance, was fined £2 for obstructing a constable in the execution of his duty. “You ..jnust learn,”, commented His Worship, “that in the street the constable is supreme, and you must obey him.” . Charged with failing to maintain his wife and child, Horace Clark Hurst was remanded to appear at Napier tomorrow. Bail was fixed at £5O. CIVIL BUSINESS. Judgment for plaintiff by default was given by Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., in the following undefended civil cases: —- The Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Association, Ltd. v. R. S. Turner, £22 14s. 6d, costs £4 165.; Kirkcaldie and Stains v. Mrs. R. M. Morrison (separate estate), £3O 55., costs £4 14s. 6d.; E. Jones v. C. J. Cusack,
£2 10s., costs £2 3s. 6d.; W. J. Hoare v, Charles Allen £53, costs £4 11s. 6d.; The National Advertising, Ltd. v. A. Saunders. £2.105., costs £1 4s. 6d.: Herbert D. Brown v. H. S. Rose, £l, costs 95.; British Imperial Oil Co. (N.Z.). Ltd. v. Percy Lupton, £ll 10s., costs £2 165.; Redding and Co. v. F. J. Paton, £67, costs £4 13s. 6d.: R. L. M. Estate v. Richard Ingram Low £55, costs £4 12s. 6d.
On judgment- summonses, Jack Martin was ordered to pay Cole Bros. £7 Os. 6d. before April 12. or undergo four days’ imprisonment: D. Christie to pay James Speight and Co., Ltd., £39 9s. 6d. before April 12. or undergo 14 days’ imprisonment; and Hugh Fraser to pay William Mowat Falconer £6 16s. 9d. before April 12. or undergo throe days’ imprisonment.
MAINTENANCE APPLICATIONS. John Ernest Denton was order to contribute £2 10,s. per week towards the support of his wife. Edythe Denton. Samuel Boyd Mason was ordered to pay £1 15s. weekly on a maintenance order.
