The New Zealand Academy of Fino Arts recently received through tho High Commissioner in London and tho Government an offer of three fine examples of the work of the wellknown New Zealand landscape painter, John. Gully. The titles of the pictures are: “A Scene near Nelson,” “Port Lyttelton,” "Mount Egmont.” They are among the largest of the late artist’s works, measuring over 6ft. by 4ft., and were painted some 50 years ago ; £450 is asked for the three pictures. The Council of tho Academy, much as it . desired to possess the works, was. owing to lack of funds, reluctantly obliged to decline the offer. At the present day there are many inquiries for the works of John Gully, who was one of New Zealand’s greatest pioneers in the field of art, and it will be of interest, to collectors to know that three of the best examples of his work are to be sold.
