MACLAREN’S TEAM AT ADELAIDE GREAT SCORE BY SOUTH AUSTRALIA ARTHUR RICHARDSON KNOCKS UP 280 by Telegraph.—press association. —Copyright. (Rec. March 15, 10.55 p.m.) Adelaide, March 15. Warm weather with a hazy atmosphere was provided for the return match, South Australia against MacLaron’s team. Dolling boat Harley in the toss, and batted on an excellent wicket. Arthur and Vic. Richardson were the first batsmen. Arthur was aggressive from tho beginning. Ho had a narrow escape in the first over, from Gibson, hitting the ball over Hill-Wood’s head at point, but tho fieldsman could only just touch it. Thereafter Arthur Richardson played matchless cricket, hitting the bowlers to all parts of tho field. By lunch-time he had scored 104. It is an Australian record to score a century before lunch. Richardson slowed down after lunch, but after the departure of Pellew, whose batting was classic, ho livened up. Bowley, a new man from Clare, where Richardson hails from, began crisply, and soon had made sixteen. He was then missed by Hill-Wood longon, off a tremendous hit. The second century came in sight after 130 minutes’ play. Tho English fielding was keen and accurate, there being very few mistakes. Gibson soon after dropped a ridiculously easy chance from Richardson, who mishit Calthorpe. Another chance off the same bowler was missed bv Lowry at long slip—an excusoless 'blunder. The scoring was continued at astonishing speed, the third century appearing in 172 minutes, Richardson 'taking the same time for his second century, which ho signalled by hitting Brand out of the ground. Richardson’s score, is unique in amassing a century before luncheon, and tho second century before the tea adjournment Eventually he was caught in tho long field by Lowry, off Chapman. Bewley’s was a remarkable performance, his score being full of promise. Rvmill plnved a sound, forceful innings. The following are tho detailed scores. AUSTRA LIA. First Innings. A. Richardson, c.
