CONGREGATIONALISM

WHAT IT STANDS FOR. In view of the decision made last year not to unite with the Presbyterian Church, and also of the need for co-ordinating the forces of tho Church on the common basis of vision and service,- tho Congregational Union, sitting at Auckland, decided to prepare a, statement setting out what tho denomination stood for. Subsequently a resolution to the following eifect was carried unanimously:—“Congregationalism stands for freedom, in thought and method. It does not believe that tho Spirit ceased to speak in the fourth or in any century. It believes in the; present activity of the Spirit of God, and has. therefore, always been receptive of new truths. Venerable standards arc not limits of truth. There is still more light, and more truth to break from God’s Word. Congregationalists, while loyal to the faith once for all delivered to the Saints, are at liberty to restate the Gospel in tho Ight of modern knowledge. ”
