CHILD DROWNED IN WAIKATO

RIVER. BY TELXGBAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. Rotorua, February 21. At 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon, Esther Mackenzie, aged eight, the daughter of Mr. <l. W. Mackenzie, pro. prietor of the accommodation house at Atiamuri, was drowned in the Waikato. She was swept over the Atiamuri Falls. The child was in a boat moored to the river-bank, when the chain became detached or broke, the boat drifting over the falls before assistance possible. The body has not yet been recovered.
