CANADA’S TRADE

ADVERSELY AFFECTED BY UNITED STATES’ TARIFF. x New York, February 20. In an interesting observation on Canadian commercial policy, the Lieu-tenant-Governor of Manitoba, Sir James Aikins, said: “If the United States does not see fit to buy what Canada has to export, it seems to me Canada cannot afford to buy and should not buy from them the things they want to sell. It would be safer and better for us to sell ■ to, and through, the British Empire, and buy in the same way only.” He quoted figures to show how the United States tariff had adversely affected Canada’s trade. —Aus.-N.Z.
