LOWER PRICES FOR SHEEP. BY Telegraph—Press association. Dunedin, February 21. There were large entries of all classes of fat stock at the Burnside sales to-day. The general tone of the market was sound, with the exception of sheep, which were sold at a reduction of about 2s. 6d. per head. Fat cattle—An entry of 291 of average quality, following a yarding of 819 last week. At the opening sales were not easj' to effect at values approaching those ruling last week, but after proceedings had got well started, a Canterbury buyer commenced purchasing heavy prime bullocks. Lius resulted m prices improving, the advance being in' the vicinity of IBs.. per .head above last week’s values. Prime handy weight bullocks sold on a basis of 2bs. to 28s. per 1001 b., extra prime 275. 6d to 305., prime medium quality ~os. 6d. to 275., prime heifer 245., prime cows 225. 6d., aged cows 18s to 20s Best bullocks made £ll 10s. to ~14 10s„ good £8 10s. to £lO 10s., medium £7 10s. to £8 10s. Best heifers £< to £9, cows £5 to £6. Fat sheep-3229 were penned, compared with 1532 last week. The quality was mixed and the entry included a good proportion of ewes. The demand was only fair at the commencement and it eased somewhat as the sale progressed. Prices on the "‘holo declined Is. 3d. per head for wethers and about 2s. 6d. per head for ewes.
