EFFORT TO' SECURE IT FOR AUSTRALIA. (Rec. February 20, 7.35 p.m.) Sydney, February 20. In connection with the cabled announcement that Captain Cook’s ong,n;d record of the discovery of Australia would shortly be auctioned m London, Mr. Scott Fell has cabled to the editor of tho London “Times’ to secure an option and the lowest price. Th« .editor has replied that private offers will not be entertained. Mr. Scott Fell, through the Press, is now urging that the Commonwealth _ and State Governments, aided by private contributions, should make a strenuous effort to secure the record. Ho offers to contribute £2oo.—Press Assn.
