THE NURSERYMEN
TRIP TO WAINUI-O-MATA. After a strenuous five-session conference. The nurserymen, officers of the Agricultural Department, and their lady friends, to the number of about eighty, journeyed to tho city waterworks as guests of tho Wellington Nurserymen’s Council. The outing was conducted in lovely weather. Morning tea was provided under the trees at the lower dam. after which the whole party wended their way up to “Semple’s” tunnel, where they were, met by Mr. Semple, who explained many details of the great work in progress. On returning to the lower dam, afternoon tea was served under the trees, after which a little social function was held. Mr. A. W. Hamilton spoke of the splendid feeling existing between the nurserymen and tho officers of the Department. Mr. Campbell had given them much assistance in many ways; thev could always rely on his good will. The relations with Captain Ellis and tho officers of tho State Forest Service was that of being co-workers _in a great national cause; their assistance was always assured. Ho moved a hearty vo+e of thanks to Dr. Reakes, Captain Ellis, and the officers of, tho Agricultural and. Forest Departments. This was carried with acclamation, Mr. Campbell responding on behalf of Mr. Popo, who was present. Tho president moved a vote of thanks to the retiring officers, coupling with it tho names of Messrs. A. W. Preston, V. C. Davies, and A. W. Hamilton, all of whom suitably resnondnd on •behalf of themselves and tho officers. Tn responding to a vote of thanks, Mr. Green said it was nearly ten years since a meeting of seven nurserymen and Mr. T. W. Kirk, late of the Division of Horticulture, had met in Normanby, and laid the foundation of the Nurserymen's Association, which was now 300 strong. On the return journey, the party enoyed a splendid view of Wellington rarbour, the Hutt Valley, and the citv from the top of the ranges.
