CARGO PILLAGING
WATERSIDER IN TROUBLE SENTENCED TO TWO MONTHS’ IMPRISONMENT on ships have had "many warnings, and a term of imprisonment must bo imposed,” said Mr. E. Page, S.M., in tho Magistrate’s Court yesterday, in dealing with a powerfullybuilt watersider named Gus Nelson, who admitted stealing a bottle, of whisky, the property of the Federal Steam Navigation Shipping Company, mid 17 packets of soap, valued at £1 145., tho property of some person or persons unknown. Scnior-Detectivo Lewis stated that accused had committed the theft of th* whisky while working on the cargo steamer Otarama. As the result of a search of his house, Detective Tricklebank had recovered the whisky* and, in addition, located 17 packets of soap, which the man also admitted purloining. Nelson had never been previously convicted for dishonesty. Mr. C. B. O'Donnell, who appeared for accused, said that his client was a married man with three children, and asked that the offence be met by a fine. The Magistrate regretted that he was unable to take a lenient view, and sentenced accused to one month’s imprisonment on each charge, tho terms to be cumulative.
