A BUSY WOMAN
FORGERY AND FALSE PRETENCES by Telegraph.—Press association. Auckland, January 15. Ellen Elizabeth Elliott, aged 26, was committed for sentence on charges of the forgery of her husband’s name in respect of withdrawals of sums totalling £230 from the Post Office Savings Bank, also of having used a counterfeit impression stamp of the Newton Savings Bank branch, and making an entry in tho bank book by altering amounts of deiiosits; and, further, with having otbained from business men £43 by falsely representing she was a widow. As regards the latter case, the accused gave. a bill of sate over her sister-in-law’s furniture and piano, while in regard to the withdrawals she represented that her husband was ill. and she got people to witness the signatures. The accused alleged that a man made tho stamp without asking what it was for.
