THE FRENCH WARSHIP
MESSAGE FROM THE ADMIRAL by telegraph.—press association. Auckland, January 15. A message of greeting was sent to the French battle-cruiser Jules Michelet to-day by Viscount Jelhcoe on behnlf of the Government and people of New Zealand, and the following reply was received by wireless from Admiral Gilly:— "On entering Near Zealand waters my officers, mv men. and I bring to mind ae-ain recollection of the Great War Wo bow respectfully before the memorv of New Zealand’s valiant sons, who, coming in such great numbers from their far-distant- country, fell for the common cause with a bravery and courage wlv'ch won the admiration of tho world. We honour the famous Commander-in-Cliief under whose orders the greatest fleet of all time won a magnificent victory in the incessant struggle against the elements and against the enemy. I desire to express to Your Excellency, as well as to the Government and people of New Zealand, our profound thanks for your cordial telegram of meeting. The officers and men are delighted at the opportunity given to them of visiting your beautiful country.”
