RIFLE SHOOTING
PETONE CLUB
The second competition, third series, was fired at Trentham on Saturday, at ranges 300 yards and 500 yards. A rear changeable fishtail w-ind was experienced, and good scores were at a premium. A Woir was top scorer with 87 points, including a good 46 at the longer range. _ W. H. . Ballinger wins tho spoon in A Division, A. Weir in ,B Division, and A. Scott in the C Division. The scores were as under: — A Division.
OLD NAVALS CLUB The Old Navals Club commenced a series of three matches, to be fired over short ranges, up to 600yds., weather conditions being very- trying to the marksmen. The light and fish-tail variations , w-erq difficult to ..contend with. The following are the appended scores:—
Rifleman J. Pitt’s team won the Martin Challenge Badges from Rifleman Goldfinch’s team. Rifleman Pitt’s team: R. Bishop, 87; J. Pitt, 80: L, Hare, 80; C. Hugo, 72: total, 319. Rifleman Standidgc’s team were run-ners-up with a score of 305.
SUBURBS CLUB
The members of the Suburbs Club held their final shoot in the third series at 300 and 500 yards on Saturday. The shoot was a preliminary to tho club’s annual field day, which takes place on January 22, over all ranges, and for which a generous programme is provided, the main item being as usual the “Daily Mail” Cup. As the conditions on Saturday were very fair, some good scores were put on. The leaders in the series were:— H. B-. Hunt, 336; 11. E. Hester, 332; L. Lewis, 330; and C. Whiteman, 329. Next Saturday a fourth series will be commenced at 500 and 600 yards. The following are Saturday’s scores, with handicap:—■ 300 500
