ALLEGED ASSAULT
TWO MEN SENT FOR TRIAL
Two powerfully-built young soamen, Arthur Burden and Herbert rumor, were charged before Mr. B - G. Riddell, S.M., in the Magistrate. Court yesterday with assaulting George Yule on December 13. Sub-Inspc'ctor Cummings prosecuted, and Mr. A. J. Mazengarb appeared for the accused. x x u George Yule, the complainant, tola the Court that he was an engineer by occupation. On the evening m question ho and a companion named -McLeod were at the Foresters’ Arms Hotel and when the latter displayed (I roll of money one of the accused men asked him to “shout” a drrak. The request was not acceded to. yVniio walking down Taranaki Street a short time later, witness continued, the aoc’ised came up and “nagged” at him. Then one of them pushed him, ana the other struck him on the mouth. Witness went to the police station ana reported the occurrence. According to medical evidence the complainant had been admitted to the hospital suffering from a slight fracture of the jaw and minus four teeth. William McLeod said he had not exhibited much interest in what had occurred in the hotel, as he did not know either of the men. ‘‘And, he added "it’s a common thing to be asked’for a drink- in Wellington.” Constables Mcßae and Corston gave evidence concerning the arrest of the accused. The accused pleaded not guilty, reserved their defence, "and were committed to the Supreme Court for frtH. Bail was allowed in each cas<. self in £5O, with one surety of a similar amount.
