THAT.CANTERBURY GAME

The chairman (Mr. C. G. Wilson) presided over the weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Cricket Association last evening. There were also present Messrs. J. Reid, R. -Murphy, P. Fulton, P. B. Broad, D. McKenzie, R. A. Berry, W. R. Bock, H. J. Buck, and E. R. F. Hewitt (hon. secretary). Further particulars of the Canterbury Cricket Association’s objection to the dates suggested by the Wellington Association for the Plunkct . Shield match were made available through a lengthy communication from the southern body. It was declared that the takings would have to exceed £lOO before any profit could be made, and that if the match should commence on a Thursday there was no guarantee that it would extend to the Saturday, while the receipts on Tliursday and Friday would probably' not exceed the amount. Further, the second day of a match was generally the most interesting, and therefore the best draw, and a Phuiket Shield match must be played to a finish, and in the event of its extending to the fourth day the visiting team would be compelled to remain over the week-ewl. If the match were completed in two days, the Saturday, it was argued, would be a wasted one for club cricket, and it had' always bean a recognised practice that when representative fixtures were arranged nt a time other than a public holiday, Saturday had been invariably’ selected for the first or second day of the match. On the motion of Mr. Reid, seconded b;v Mr. Murphv. it was decided to submit February 23? February 24, and February’ 2G as the. dates, provided the Canterbury Assoc alien Pays half of tho extra, expenses incurred.

General Business. It was decided to ask the City Council if the, extra 15. per c'ent charge for admission to the enclosure at the Basin Reserve during the recent representative matches is in accordance with the agreement. The council is also to he requested to complete the. agreement and forward a copy to the association. Mr. Reid suggested that as the Boys’ League was a valuable adjunct of the association, the body could increase its donation this season to £lO l()s. The proposal was not accepted, and on the motion of Mr. Berry it was decided to contribute £5 os The invitation of the Wellington Boxing Association for the 'lest teams tn attend a contest on January 25 was accepted with thanks. According to a notification from the Wanganui Association, .Holland will b« available to play against the M.(J.C team. The treasurer announced that Wellington would receive £240, Auckland £llO, and the New Zealand Council £lB from the receipts of the recent Wellington-Auckland Plunket Shield match.
