BOWLING

MEETING OF WELLINGTON CENTRE.

A meeting of the AA’ellington Bowling Centre Committee was held last night, when Air. F. Meadowcroft presided. The treasurer’s report showed a credit balance of £154 ss. Id. The time for entry for the championship matches was extended to January 31,1923. , The Gisborno Rose Bowl is to be awarded to the runners-up at the centre tournament. A sub-committee, consisting of Atessrs. Salek, Halliday, Edwards, Colonel Collins, J. S. Keith, and the president, was formed to consider the details of the forthcoming visit of the New South Wales bowlers. The president’s gala day was postponed until next season. Air. Al. Hodges was appointed to attend the meeting of delegates to the Dominion Council, to be held in Auckland. It was decided to see if it were not possible to have a uniform standard of scoring boards for clubs within the jurisdiction of tho Wellington Centre. A letter was received from Air. J. Holdsworth, complaining of tho frequent violation of the rule governing the stance on the mat to be adopted by a player when delivering his bowl, lie pointed out that the rule had been broken as many ns thirty times at the previous tournament, without a penalty being inflicted. He thought it was time- that the centre took a definite stand on tho matter. Another thing he stressed as a violation of a rule was the running after a bowl when delivered right tip to the head. Tim rule was that the bowl must not be followed further than 10ft. from tha mat. The penalty for the non-observ-ance of those two rules was the expulsion from the association of any centre that does not enforce them. He thought provisions ought to be made to allow umpires to insist upon these rules being carried out. He instanced the case of where, to his certain knowledge, two skips had agreed to the violation of these rules as betvjr ■en themselves in the games at the centre tournament. Certain rules wore coming to be regarded as so munh waste paper. The letter was received, and it was decided that Air. Holdsworth should be thanked. A motion to have the letter forwarded to the Dominion Council was defeated.
