EXPLOSION OF FIREDAMP ON A STEAMER
IN TERRIFIC STORM IN BAY OF BISCAY. London, November 1. An explosion of firedamp below, decks occurred on the French steamw? Madali, while the vessel was contending with a terrific storm in tho Bay of Biscay. The steamer was bound for Algiers with a cargo of coal from Cardiff. The hatches were hurled into the, sea end four of the crew were seriously injured. Tho captain ran towards Corunna for medical aid. Two men were placed in hospital.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
