A deliberate attempt to bum down the Avondale public school, situated in Great North Itoad, appears to have been made last Wednesday night about 8 o’clock (states the Auckland “Star”), and it was only the prompt turn-out by the recently-formed. Avondale Fire Brigade that saved the building from being enveloped in flames, inie incipient blaze in the basement was observed by some passers-by, who lost no time in summoning tho brigade.
