Goodman s Trentham stables is a well-grown two-year-old gelding by Treadmill from Gold io ’Fhe first New Zealand Cup candidate to score was the locally-owned Eerie, who annexed the open sprint evgnt at the Hawera Hunt meeting on Saturday. The victory does not incur a penalty in the big event at Riccarton. Nominations for all events at the Manawatu Hunt Club meeting close to-morrow night. Kikini, thj? five-year-old mare by Merry Moment—Ariom, hasi.been .purchased by Mr. J. Wingham, of Greymouth. _ Molyneux, winner of the Inst Avondale Cup, is not engaged in this year s race, but tho other place-getters, Mangamalioe and Admiral Codrington, have been nominated. . ■ The two-year-old King of Hearts (Bonifonn—Dearest) has furnished into a very fine youngster, but unfortunately he is still showing a couple of splints. However, it is not expected that they will interfere with his racing. The entries for the Eclipse_ Stakes at the Wanganui meeting include, amongst others, Thespian Pluto, Vespiicci, Gasbag, Winning Hit, and Trespass, so there is the material for a good contest. . Entries for all events at the Otaki Meeting close on Friday. General entries for the Avondale meriting are due on September 1. Acceptances for all events at the Marton meeting close on Wednesday. The North Taranaki Hunt Club’s meeting will bg held on the New Plymouth racecourse on Saturday. The death is reported from Auckland, at the ago of eighty-four years, of Mr. C. V. Hill, who was for many years caretaker of the Auckland Racing Club’s Ellerslie racecourse, a position in which he was succeeded by his son, Mr. A. Hill. The deceased gentleman was widely known and greatly j-espect-ed by racing men who visited Ellierslie. Molvneux beat a fair field over a nJle at Moorefield, Sydney, this month. A few days later he carried a 71b. penalty into third place at Rosehill. Apparently it was not an impressive performance, as one writer remarked that “he may have difficulty in further adding to his winning account in Sydney.” A Melbourne sportsman who saw Eurythmic after his recent spell says ht> is looking particularly well, and he is of opinion that the Eudorus horse will be a tougher proposition for Beauford at Femington than he was when the pair met last autumn.
